Alica Best lives by the motto “We make a living by what we get, but we make our LIVES by what we GIVE.” Alica has known what is BEST for youth in the community, by being a volunteer and servant leader for nearly two decades. She has served the community through working with youth and families as a former elementary paraprofessional, Girls Scouts Program Facilitator, Camp Facilitator, and faith-based institution leader. Alica’s dedication and passion were instrumental in increasing a local Girl Scout Troop’s membership from 10 to 30 actively engaged girls who attended regularly. She is one who seeks to touch as many lives as possible. She is the founder of 100 Young Kings & Queens, Inc, a non-profit organization designed to expose students to opportunities that allow them to advance in culture, education, leadership, and creativity. One of the most significant moments for the organization was taking over 100 youth to view a private screening of the movie, “Black Panther,” which proved to be a poignant powerful lesson on self-worth, respect, trustworthiness, and cultural literacy. The youth were able to see positive images of themselves, which is vital to present and future growth. Alica is known for engaging students in activities that help guide them with life skills, character building, leadership, and teamwork. As a former at-risk youth, she has dedicated her life to support and guide them to make the changes needed for their growth. She is also the host of Inside the Overflow Podcast. Presented every Saturday at 11AM at www.insidetheoverflow.com. Its mission is to empower teens and those who work with and advocate for teens. Alica now provides support through keynotes, workshops, seminars, conferences and programs all for the purpose of the BEST principles: Building Empowering and Serving Teens.
